Data Destruction
The proper disposal of obsolete or end of life computer equipment has to be managed properly by data destruction services and is no longer a case of simply throwing it in the skip. Organisations now have responsibilities under data protection legislation and the EC's 2007 WEEE (waste electrical & electronic equipment) directive to ensure that equipment is properly disposed of, while organisations dealing with sensitive data will also have additional responsibilities under either the Data Protection or Official Secrets acts to ensure correct data destruction. Barron McCann is currently the only UK data security specialist to receive CESG CTM certification to provide fully-managed on-site data destruction services for protectively marked data up to and including HM Government Top Secret (IL6).
